About The Role

The Application Architect plays a key role in designing and overseeing the architecture of enterprise applications to support the digital transformation of ELGi.

Role & responsibilities

Application Architecture Strategy and Design

• Define and implement the enterprise application architecture strategy to meet current and future business needs.
• Design end-to-end application solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Develop application integration frameworks, ensuring seamless interoperability across systems (ERP, CRM, PLM, MES, and custom applications).
• Drive the modernization of legacy applications through cloud migration, microservices, and containerization.

Cloud and Technology Modernization

• Ensure that application solutions are scalable, interoperable, secure, and aligned with business strategies.
• Lead efforts to modernize legacy systems, implement cloud-native solutions, and enable a composable, agile IT landscape.
• Champion the adoption of cloud-native application architectures using platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Design and implement microservices-based architectures, APIs, and serverless solutions to enable agile development and deployment.
• Evaluate and recommend tools, frameworks, and platforms for application development and integration.

Solution Delivery and Governance

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, developers, and cross-functional IT teams to deliver fit-for-purpose application solutions.
• Define standards and best practices for application development, including coding guidelines, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Establish and oversee governance frameworks for application lifecycle management, security, and compliance.

Innovation and Emerging Technologies

• Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies, such as AI/ML, IoT, low-code/no-code platforms, and edge computing, to deliver business value.
• Conduct proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives to assess new technologies and their applicability within the organization.
• Incorporate sustainability principles (Green IT) into application architecture design.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with enterprise architects, data architects, infrastructure teams, and business leaders to ensure cohesive IT solutions.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business units, translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Communicate application architecture concepts and solutions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Team Leadership and Mentorship

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
• Build the technical capabilities of the team through knowledge sharing, training, and hands-on guidance.

Preferred candidate profile

Skills

• Strong experience in designing and implementing enterprise application architectures in large-scale environments.
• Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern application design principles (microservices, APIs, containers, and serverless).
• Solid understanding of ERP, CRM, and manufacturing-specific applications (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
• Proficiency with application integration technologies (ESB, APIs, middleware) and development frameworks (.NET, Java, Python, etc.).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and tools such as Jenkins, Git, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Leadership and Problem-Solving Ability to provide technical leadership and direction to cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Experience

• 8-10 years of experience in application architecture, solution design, or software development roles.
• Demonstrated experience in modernizing legacy applications and implementing cloud-based solutions.
• Proven track record of designing scalable and secure application architectures in a global enterprise environment (manufacturing experience is a plus).

Education

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred)

Certifications

• Cloud Architect Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect).
• TOGAF or equivalent Enterprise Architecture certification (preferred).
• Certifications in application development frameworks (e.g., Java, .NET) or DevOps (e.g., Kubernetes, Jenkins).
