Overview

A Solar Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing solar power systems for residential, commercial, and utility-scale applications. This role blends technical expertise with environmental awareness to deliver efficient, compliant, and cost-effective solar solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• System Design & Development

• Create detailed solar PV system layouts using CAD tools (AutoCAD, Helioscope, etc.)
• Perform energy yield simulations using PVsyst or similar software
• Design electrical single-line diagrams and interconnection schematics

• Site Assessment & Feasibility

• Conduct site visits and analyze shading, orientation, and structural constraints
• Evaluate solar potential and recommend appropriate technologies

• Technical Documentation

• Prepare construction-ready drawings and bill of materials
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international codes (NEC, IEC, etc.)

• Project Collaboration

• Work closely with project managers, field technicians, and clients
• Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases

• Performance Optimization

• Monitor system performance post-installation
• Troubleshoot and refine designs for efficiency and reliability

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field

Experience

2–5 years in solar PV design and implementation

Certifications

NABCEP or equivalent (preferred)

Software Proficiency

AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, Aurora Solar
