Role Overview

Database Engineer

This freelance role is ideal for professionals who thrive in startup environments and can independently manage critical database systems from design to deployment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain relational and non-relational databases (SQL & NoSQL)
  • Optimize database performance, indexing strategies, and query efficiency
  • Implement backup, replication, and recovery solutions
  • Develop data models and ensure data integrity and consistency
  • Collaborate with developers and data analysts on schema design and data workflows
  • Ensure security, compliance, and scalability of data infrastructure


What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on experience as a Database Engineer, DBA, or similar role
  • Strong proficiency in RDBMS systems (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server)
  • Experience with NoSQL systems (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, etc.)
  • Skilled in writing complex queries, stored procedures, triggers, and views
  • Familiarity with cloud database solutions (AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL, Azure DB)
  • Strong understanding of data security, privacy, and performance tuning


Preferred Skills

  • Experience with data warehousing and ETL pipelines
  • Hands-on with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Exposure to DevOps workflows and CI/CD for DB changes
  • Familiarity with ORMs, data versioning tools, and schema migration strategies
  • Understanding of real-time data streaming (Kafka, Apache Flink, etc.) is a plus
