Director Software Engineering

Role Overview: You will be part of the SDB Store Services team, responsible for storage and backup services for enterprise-wide relational database use-cases. Your role will involve managing, hiring, and nurturing engineering talent, driving execution and quality delivery, providing technical guidance and career development, encouraging innovation, and making critical decisions to ensure product success. You will also be involved in design, development, reviews, continuous improvements to engineering practices, and working effectively with geographically distributed teams. Key Responsibilities: - Manage, hire, and nurture engineering talent for database store supporting Salesforces relational use-cases at petabyte scale - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, architects, product owners, and engineers to drive execution and quality delivery - Provide technical guidance, career development, performance management, coaching, and mentoring to team members - Encourage innovation, lead with influence, and build service ownership mindset to deliver on product roadmaps - Make critical decisions, manage risk, and ensure the success of the product - Engage in different aspects of design, development, reviews, and provide continuous improvements to engineering practices - Work effectively with geographically distributed partner teams - Build development teams with a full-service ownership model, manage product escalations, build new capabilities, and lead the team with Agile methodologies Qualifications Required: - 15+ years of overall software development experience with at least 2+ years of engineering management experience - Experience in leading and developing software development projects for enterprise-scale distributed cloud services - Working experience in cloud object stores, preferably for building databases - Service ownership experience of cloud-based distributed services and understanding of service health measurements and monitoring - Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership - Experience working in scrum/agile development environment with an Agile mindset - Strong adherence to software engineering best practices such as unit testing, modular code, and continuous integration mindset - Working knowledge of Kubernetes and modern technologies/tools/services to manage the lifecycle on public cloud is desirable - Strong data structure and algorithms skills, extensive programming experience, preferably in Java or object-oriented languages - Exposure to AI tools and adoption,
