Data Scientist

The Position

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join a growing Research & Data Science team and collaborate with other Developers, Data Scientists and Engineers to research, prototype and trial innovative solutions for real-time monitoring, verification and optimisation of live equipment in the built environment, including predictive maintenance and Machine Learning driven optimization.

Reporting to the Team Lead for Research & Data Science, the successful candidate will get the opportunity to work directly with customers and stakeholders across a range of industries globally, see the direct results of your work through demonstrable energy savings and contribute to addressing global warming.

Deliver robust proven solutions and work closely with and around our software development team to integrate them in our range of products and contribute from beginning to end of a project.

Tasks and responsibilities include:

• Data collection, pre-processing, and management
• Construct data ETL pipeline from various data sources
• Identify and visualise relevant trends across datasets
• Literature review of state-of-the-art research in Data Science and relevant Engineering applications
• Develop and evaluate predictive models using state-of-the-art Data Science techniques, and relevant Physics and Engineering principles
• Preliminary prototyping using Python or similar high-level programming language or numerically oriented tools
• Evaluate solutions for integrating models into a commercial product
• Collaborate closely with Software Development teams to ensure all functions and features of proposed research solutions are implemented and working as required or expected including participating in validation testing of research implemented in a commercial product.
• Preparation of R&D findings report, Functional Descriptions and Project Documentation
• Development and maintenance of CI/CD and MLOps pipelines including testing, staging and production environments
• Effectively use and contribute to the use of project planning, issue tracking, and source code management tools
• Participate in software design, development, documentation and testing of Conserve Its range of products, as required
• Meet with team members, other teams and managers as required
• Updates job-related knowledge by participating in education opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations
• Communicate with external parties for data collection and site trials
• Contribute to research journal papers and conference papers as required
• Participate in project and development planning meetings
• Use and contribute to the use of project planning, issue tracking and software documentation tools

Opportunity for growth:

• Formulate and solve Mathematical Optimisation problems for Model Predictive Control, Machine Learning model training, self-tuning algorithms, and other applications as required
• Carry out IPMVP-based M&V study to assess energy savings of deployed solutions on site

Essential skills and experience

must

Compulsory Technologies & skills with a minimum of 3 years’ experience

• Solid grounding in Object Oriented Design and Development
• Demonstrable programming experience and/or skills in Python (being able to show code you have worked on will put you at the top of the list)
• Ability to translate a design or mathematical model into code
• Understanding of developing software models to reflect real world entities
• Development of multi-threaded systems and general understanding of the use of application frameworks
• Ability to perform data exploratory analysis for proof of concept and to communicate results to a diverse audience
• Ability to prototype robust, scalable and maintainable solutions in Python
• Advanced NumPy/SciPy, Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow (or PyTorch)
• Data processing and cleaning with Pandas
• Data visualisation with Matplotlib, Plotly & Seaborne
• Significant programming experience and/or skills in Python, Java or C++ to implement reliable production-grade solutions
• Strong skills in developing software models to reflect real world entities and equipment
• Deep knowledge of Machine Learning and AI algorithms
• Practical experience developing & deploying a machine learning algorithm in a real-world scenario in production
• Practical experience developing and deploying MLOps pipelines or CI/CD pipelines
• Experience in writing clean and maintainable software (e.g. in Python, Java or C++)
• Atlassian suite of tools (Jira, Confluence, BitBucket)
• Strong foundations in Mathematics

Desirable Skills:

• Ability to design and tune deep neural network architectures (ANN, RNN, CNN)
• Knowledge of Mathematical Optimization theory and ability to understand tailored solver

Other mandatory requirements:

• Eligible to travel to Australia, for short stays of up to a few weeks at a time
• Postgraduate Degree in a quantitative discipline (Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics)
